My 3rd Tea Time Tuesday & Teapot and Tea Things Tuesday for July 27th, 2010.

Hi everyone, I'm a little late getting this post together. I had some things I needed to get done today, that I had been putting off. Okay Here are my tea things for today.

This first teacup was actually given to me by a friend.  I was staying at a friend's house while recovering from surgery in September 2004.  She had this lonely little teacup. She asked if I wanted it. I said  "yes"...even though I wasn't real thrilled with the design at first. However, it did grow on me and now I love it :) :) :) I'm so glad I kept this little teacup!!!

Isn't the design lovely? It's got such detail. Oh and wait till you see the backstamp on this teacup. Every teacup should have such a lovely backstamp :) :) :)

I'm especially fond of teacups that have a special something on the inside room...almost always a flower or two :) :) It's like a special secret surprise :) :) :)

Here's a close up of the detail on the teacup.  This is incredibly colorful and intricate. If you look carefully around the rim, you'll see the design of the cup itself in addition to the beautiful colors :) :)

Check it..this is just too cool...even around the handle there's detail!!!  Nothing was left out of this teacup...except some tea ;) :) :)

I did some research on the internet.  I haven't been able to find out much about the history of the company. However, this backstamp is stunningly beautiful. Just look at all that detail. So I went to my now favorite website for looking up any possible china pattern out there. It's called "Replacements Ltd." Let me tell you, if you need replacement sets, this is the place to go. The prices vary..but I was able to find the same pattern here. Click here to view other items in this pattern "Chartreuse".

The backstamp...even the backstamp is a work of art!!! This was made by the Homer Laughlin Co.  This pattern is no longer manufactured.

I decided this lonely little teacup needed a friendly saucer to keep it company.  Remember awhile back how I talked about going to the thrift store to look for tea things? I totally hit the jackpot. I'll show just some of those finds today.  I found all of these tea things, with the exception of the sugar bowl, at the local St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop. As it happens, ALL DISHES etc were 50% off :) :)  Here's a lovely little saucer I found to go with my "Chartreuse" teacup.  I know the pattern doesn't match, but it's so pretty and has lots of detail. This saucer only cost me $1.

The detail is exquisite. I found some similar examples, but was unable to find this exact pattern online.

This is the backstamp.

How this was a really interesting find. I also found these teacups at St. Vincent de Paul. I actually bought TWO of them for just $1.50. These are lovey little china teacups.  I have a matching sugar bowl that was given to my dad decades ago. My dad gave it to me...and when I saw these teacups I bought them to go with the sugar bowl. This is a Japanese teacup with lovely, dainty pink/gray roses.

I really like the delicate detail of flowers climbing up the entire cup :) :)

This teacup also has a secret flower detail on the inside :) :)

The manufacturing date for this particular pattern is around 1959. The backstamp on this teacup is also quite lovely!!!

Here was a another lonely little saucer for $0.50. This was the closest thing in terms of color and tone, that would go with the "Rosebud" teacup. I love mismatched dishes!!!  It matched the "Floral Mist" design I found here at Replacements Ltd. Click here to view on image. They didn't have an image of the saucer, but this matches the plate perfectly.

This is the little Japanese china sugar bowl that prompted me to buy the two  Harmony House "Rosebud" teacups. My father doesn't even remember being gifted with this sugar bowl, but I do!!! I've had this sugar bowl for at least 20 years now...and can you imagine how delighted I was to find something that matched almost exactly in a little thrift shop? That's just a really nice treat. Here's the lid to the sugar bowl.

The one difference in this sugar bowl verses the teacups is that there's a slight pale yellow accent of miniature rosebuds in addition to the grey stem leaves/pink roses.

A side view of the sugar bowl with a small rosebud detail.

Here's the larger pink roses detail on the other side of the sugar bowl.

Surprisingly I found this pattern on Replacements Ltd here. I also found this exact sugar bowl selling on eBay here. I"m more surprised by how much these things sell for than anything else. For me, teacups and other dishes etc, I buy because it's beautiful or I inherit, as is the case with this sugar bowl :) :) :)

Those are my tea things for today.  If you know anything else about these particular china patterns, please let me know. I couldn't find much history about how these patterns came to be in existence, just some info about the names.

Oh,  I even made special heart-shaped ice cubes with the pink rubber ice cube tray I purchased the other day. Click here to see a small photo of it. You'll need to scroll down a little bit. I wanted to show you all "romantic ice cubes" and I totally forgot. I'll make sure and have it ready for next week :) :)

We had really serious dark clouds last night and I thought maybe finally we'd have a rainstorm. Alas, it was not to be..some areas saw some thunder...but not me. I did close my window last night. I was afraid of getting struck by lighting in my room. A little unrealistic I know :) :)...but I just wanted to be on the safe side!!! Now I feel cheated.

Alright, I'm off to watch a  another cool episode of Perry Mason. That has become one of my new favorite "old tv shows" :) :) It's got glass and drama without any of the yucky stuff.

Thanks for joining me for tea today. I hope you all have a blessed day. That's the news from Oregon. Love and hugs, Heather :)

Dear Heather,
I love all of your teacups - and I agree that the backstamps are amazing! What part of Oregon do you live in? My husband grew up there and I think it is the most magestic state in America! I enjoyed your post very much!

Heather,
I love your tea things. I also love mismatched dishes. That is pretty much how I decorate my house--mismatched items!! Replacements, Ltd. used to be in Greensboro--haven't checked lately to see if it is still there. Is that depression glass the first teacup is on? I remember my cousin getting so excited when she would find things like that way back in the 70's!! I'll have to look up the things I found today on Replacements, Ltd.
I love the old Perry Mason shows--I haven't seen any in quite a few years now though--I guess our cable providers stopped carrying it. I love the old Charlie Chan movies and the Andy Hardy movies--nice story lines and none of the "yucky stuff" as you say.
We finally got some rain today--lots of it--we're under a flash flood warning now!
I hope you are having a lovely day.
Hugs, Sheila

Heather, you have been a busy girl, out scouting for treasure and finding it!

I'm dropping by from Katherine's and Tea Time Tuesday to visit. I think the saucer you found looks great with the cup, and you cannot beat that price!!! Loved all of your tea things, and I'm like you, I love surprises in a tea cup.

I hope you'll join me for tea. I'm also having a giveaway. All you have to do is comment. No following. No tweeting. Just a visit! :-)

XO,

Sheila

Hi Heather :) Such pretty cups for us this week, and LOVE that they have roses. I like how you are finding saucers that go well with them! I think they look wonderful together...definitely the "Shabby Chic" way!! Which I think is the ONLY way to go, lol :)

Wonderful Tea post this week my friend!

Happy "Tea" Tuesday!

Warmest hugs, Brenda

Heather I think that your precious cups and saucers are beautiful. That you got so many of them as bargains is amazing. You must be a shopping wizard to get such treasures for so little.
I haven't seen a St Vincent de Paul since I left Montreal. Wow does that bring back some great memories!
Thanks for sharing your great china.

Your first cup is a darling thing. The other things you have found are sweet bargains. Isn't it fun to find a deal? Today I found a Chintz cup for 79 cents at DAV store!!! I will be shopping there again.

How lovely Heather!
I love the first tea cup and was shocked when you said you did not like it at first! *gasp*
I am glad to know you now do though! *happy sigh*

A neat tip I was tolled by a lady who sells antique tea cups:

Tea cups that are made in Japan tend to have rough edges on the on the lip of the tea cup and a smooth edge on the bottom, while the tea cups from England (which I think are better in some aspects) have the nice smooth lip while the bottom is rough.

Just thought you might like that little tidbit I heard, course this does not apply to every single tea cup, but most of them! :)

Blessings,

Miss Antoinette

Oh, Heather, it's hard to believe you didn't like that teacup at first. It's SO beautiful.

And, wow, you are quite the thrifter shopper. You found some lovely items.

Oh, I enjoy Perry Mason as well. I think the rapport between Paul, Della, and Perry was fabulous. But my favorite old TV show is The Fugitive. LOVE LOVE LOVE that one.

Blessings and hugs to you,
Patti

HI Ladies...oh my goodness...this is the most individual comments I've had on any post ;) :) Thank you :) :) :) I love tea ...and thanks for turning me on to Tea on Tuesdays ;) :) God is so good to create tea and inspire people to make pretty teacups to go with them :) :)

@Concetta..thank you :) I live in Southern Oregon in an area known as the Rogue Valley :) :) :)

@Virginia...thank you :) :) Blessings right back at ya :)

@Sheila...Oh, mismatched is definitely the Shabby Chic way..saw it in one of RAchel Ashwell's design books :) :) I lov that she concentrates on matching colors over pattern :) YES, that is DEPRESSION glass that the teacup is sitting on..It's Pink Princess by Hocking Anchor if I remember right. It was part of three dishes I found at a yard sale. Perry Mason...He always gets his man...

@Gerry...thank you :) :) I just type what I love and what's in my heart. Thanks for loving it too :)

@Sandi/?Rose Chintz Cottage..
I've seen some interesting variety on eBay too..but I've not purchased anything there yet!! I'm having a great day..busy this morning with errands.

@Sheila/Quintessential Magpie
Thanks for visiting me. I love tea over at Lady Katherine's. I'll make sure to check out your site tonight.

@Jill..thank you and you're welcome :) :) You have a great evening, too!!!!

@Brenda/Shabby Cats and Roses - Yep, in fact, it was one of Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic books that inspired me to start collecting by color :) :)

@Tina Eudora - Thanks. I just buy what catches my eye :) St. V incent de Paul in particular always has a good assortment of items & it's always well-organized..at least the one I frequent :) St. Vincent de Paul in Eugene, OR has an antique store called "Tea & Crumpets"..that sells antiques in good condition. They use that money to fund their other social programs...pretty cool. They do buy a lot from England.

@Bookie - How cool...a Chintz cup for $0.79...that's awesome. I have another cup for next week that I found for $0.69 and it matches two other cups I had purchased years before too. It's wild to hold onto something for so many years..and then just in a random spot, find it's exact match :)

@Lavender Cottage - Thank you for visiting me. I love the dainty pink roses on that teacup too!!!!

@Miss Antoinette K - I'm so glad I never gave that teacup away.. It's so pretty..and it has the prettiest backstamp I have ever seen!!!! I'll have to go check out my teacups and feel the rims :) :)

@Karen Long - I don't know anything about value either. I just buy it if it's in my price range and it's pretty :) :) :) is your sister on-line? She's love these tea parties. They're fun!!!

@Nancy Y - thank you :) :) :)

@Patti/A Hopeful Heart - Thank you :) :) :) I'm always thankful to God for allowing me to find such good things :) :) Oh, Perry Mason...I mentioned earlier, he always gets his man. Sometimes the acting is funny. It's very good acting, but you can tell it's from a different time. My dad and I figured out that it takes 30 minutes for someone to go missing so speak and the other half ot he show figuring out who did it!! I've never seen The Fugitive..just a few clips :)

Wow...this is so cool. I'm definitely putting this in my "thankful" journal tonight..Thanks for visiting me :) :) :) I pray you all will have a great week. May God bless you and may you recognize how much He loves you all...so do I..thanks for your visits and nice comments :) :)

Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
