MEDIA MONDAY - WEEK THREE

THIS IS JUST A TYPICAL  STREET  HERE IN MY  HOMETOWN.

Hi everyone,
How was your weekend ?   My weekend was pretty    good.  I'm behind on my crafting.  So I won't be  spending that much time on my blog or  on Facebook today.
Today is Week Three in the "Media Monday" series over at the Women Living Well site. Click here to visit this week's link. It's about media and our spouses.

Now, I am NOT married. I'm still single, so I have absolutely no street credit when it  comes to talking about this subject. However, there is one point that  I can identify with and that is spending so much time with  technology, that you don't spend time wth your loved ones.

As  most of you know, my dad and I share an apartment.  It saves on expenses. Plus, my dad and I get along, so at this season in my life, there is no reason to live in seperate places. Also, my dad and I very much have our own lives. That's  a good thing and very important.  Well, I was beginning to notice, that the computer was taking up a lot of time, in my life and my dad's life.  So  much so, that we'd cook breakfast,  and my dad would take his upstairs      while he was working on the computer. I'd be left to sit downstairs by myself . Sometimes I was the one who had breakfast upstairs.

Long story short, it was really starting to  get on my nerves and make me  sad. We are not so busy that we can't turn off the technology at least during mealtimes. We all have the same amount of time in the day.  If our loved ones  really are the most important, do we  show it? So my dad and I agreed that we would  eat together. No computers, no nothing. It's been working out great.   We talk more. Dad tells many more silly jokes. It's really nice :)  :)

Again, as Courtney points out  in her post, technology is a-moral. It's what we do with it, that it could be used for good or bad.  I think anything that starts to detract too heavily from personal interactions with other people can be too much.  So at least for me and my little home, we'll not be using the computer during mealtimes ;) :)

MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER'S OLD SHOP SCALE, WITH SOME ADDED LACE AND A VINTAGE-LOOKING PIGGY BANK : :) :)

That's about it for today.  The weather has been really cloudy and in the 70s the last few days. It's been a welcome relief from the heat.  I know so many people need rain.  I'm praying for rain and lots of it.

I've got a lot on my mind today..or so it seems.   This post is shorter than usual.  Knitting and crocheting are on my list of things to do today.  Oh, I have this craving for a nice juicy cheeseburger, today. Not sure if I'll actually get one, but I still want to eat one :)  :)    Have a  really great  Monday everyone.   That's the news from Oregon today. Love and hugs, Heather :)

Hi Heather!

So true about technology and everyone seeming to go off on their own. Sometimes i feel pulled in so many directions trying to catch up with everyone and everything.
We need rain here too, coming back from vacation our grass is all brown and dried out :-( Too hot today to do anything outside.
Hope you have a great afternoon!

Blessings,
Jill

A facebook friend just posted a link to the media post that you mention here. I think it makes a very good point and you are wise to suggest and make the changes necessary to keep relationships healthy.

Wondering if you make it through the day w/o your cheeseburger???? We've eaten relatively healthily today. I bought wonderful cherries at $1.88/lb (and I didn't think I'd see them cheaper than last week's $1.99)!

Really enjoyed my visit with you and hearing your computer woes. It can definitely take up too much time. I know I am as guilty as you almost. It's just I have no one or nothing else to stop for. I am trying to get away from it more and clean house.

Hi Heather, You are very right about spending too much time on the computer - or really, on anything. We need to be thoughtful about how we are spending our time. For, indeed, how we spend our days are how we spend our lives. You're a wise woman and I wish you all the best.

Hi Heather,

You are so right about the overuse of technology when we need to have more time just face to face with our friends and family.

Love the pic of your old shop scale. And it is so neat that it is your great-grandfather's :)

Hugs from Texas,

Susan

The interesting thing about this is that we are NOT powerless here. We DO have a choice...to stay away from the computer or not. We need to remember that. No one twists our arms to keep us on the computer and away from our loved ones...we just choose to do that.

Wishing you a wonderful day.

Love,
Patti

Hi: I agree, it is so rude when you are at the dinner table and someone is texting instead of talking to you. Good job on your new rule! Blessings, Martha

Great idea Heather to turn off the technology during mealtimes! I'm telling ya one of my biggest pet peaves these days is to go out with my family to dinner and everyone sits on their cellphones texting. Drives me nuts!
Hope you got that burger! I'm not a big meat eater but every now and then gotta have me a burger with the works! Holykisses xoxo dear friend, Lea

Hi Heather,
I'm just stopping by to say Hello. You're so right about spending too much time on techno stuff. I would dearly love to take a blogging break right now because my hubby is on holidays. But because I host my tea party every week, I feel I have an obligation to do that at least. I just get the post ready ahead of time and schedule it to go up on Monday afternoons whether I'm around or not. I have cut back blogging this week however and I likely will next week too because of our vacation. Now, texting is another matter altogether! I think it is just plain rude to text while in another's company or at the dinner table. There, that's my two cents worth! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Blessings and hugs,
Sandi

We slack off during the summer because I don't cook big meals but throughout the school year, I make sure we have our dinner at the table every night with the whole family. Everyone gets a chance to talk about their day and how school is going and of course there is always room for laughter. It is priceless time together and I'm so glad my family enjoys it!

I love your great-grandfather's old shop scale, Heather that is an awesome heirloom piece to have!! The lace is beautiful on it and around it!

We've been getting much needed rain here and it is wonderful! Our record breaking over thirty 100+ days has cooled down a bit. I can almost smell fall a'coming!
